Quality = top 5 · Volume floor R > 20

An athlete’s record is usually discussed as a single impression, and that impression is doing a great deal of work nobody can inspect. One runner holds forty records on short local routes, another holds four on hard ground, and a third has spread eleven across five countries and every kind of terrain, and these are different achievements that no single number separates honestly. This tool reports three, and refuses to combine them.

What it computes

You give it a comma-separated file with one row per FKT, listing the route name, the route difficulty, the style, the team size and the finishing time, and adding the previous record, the distance and the elevation gain wherever you have them. Each row is then scored exactly the way the FKT scoring tool scores a single attempt.

Quality is the mean of your five highest attempt scores. Volume is the sum of route difficulty across every FKT above a difficulty floor, set at 20 by default so that a long list of very short routes does not read as a career. Range is the standard deviation of route difficulty across the whole portfolio, which runs high when an athlete moves between very different kinds of ground and low when they repeat one kind. Both the floor and the number of results feeding Quality can be changed, and both are choices rather than findings.

Why three numbers and not one

Collapsing them would mean weighting them against each other, and a weighting is a claim about what matters in the sport. Doing it properly would also require normalizing each dimension against a population of athletes, and a demonstration tool does not have one and should not pretend to. Three separate numbers you can read are more defensible than one composite that hides its own assumptions.

What is reported but never scored

If you supply distance and elevation gain, the report totals the ground you covered, and those totals enter none of the three dimensions. They are there because they are the one part of a portfolio that has real units, and because people want to know.

What it does not do

It is not a leaderboard, it does not compare you to anyone, and it stores nothing, since the file you upload is read once and discarded. Results are available in metric or imperial. Nothing here is official, and none of it is affiliated with any FKT platform.

What I would like you to do with it

Run your own record through it, and if Quality, Volume and Range together say something the sport currently has no vocabulary for, then that is the result I am after and the vocabulary is worth arguing about in the forum. If the floor of 20 excludes something you think belongs in a portfolio, tell me where you would put it instead.
